The **WIMS Direct Server-Side Interface to OSISoft PI Historian** imports summarized values into WIMS or Rio. PI, by OSISoft, is a high performance data archiving system designed to collect, store, and retrieve time-based information efficiently. Data Collectors gather information from data sources, and forwards it to the PI Server (through the PI API). The PI Server compresses and stores the information in the Archive Database. The ARchive Database consists of several files, each of which represents a specific time period of historical data. Data is read from the PI database, summarized based upon the user specified statistic and the resulting value is placed in the WIMS/Rio database.

**Q12640 - INFO: Source versions tested**
This interface was tested using PI OLEDB version [3.2.2.10](http://3.2.2.10).The interface uses the PI OLEDB driver to connect to the PI Historian and must be version 2.0.11 or later in order to support standard queries generated by this interface. For directions on installation, see the article [Installing the PI OLE DB driver](http://www.opssys.com/instantkb/article.aspx?id=12641).
**Q12641 - HOWTO: Installing the PI OLE DB driver**
The OSI PI OLEDB Provider is required to be installed in order for the WIMS Interface to read data from the PI Historian. Rockwell Historian now utilizes a PI backend for their historian as well. The PI OLE DB is included in the OSIsoft's PI Data Access suite of products. This driver is licensed by OSISoft and MUST be purchased from OSIsoft, it is NOT included in the purchase of this interface. Please check with your PI provider to see if you are licensed for this driver.
Below is an excerpt from the manual for Rockwell Historian v6 on how to perform the installation of the driver.
