Here’s what I’d like to do: 1. Work with you to handle the FCC licensing application process 2. At the same time, explore and most likely do the 900mhz ethernet process. As you know Shane is retiring next month and Shannon doesn’t have time to take this on. She DID express the desire to possibly buy radios that could do both. Let’s plan this and take action. Thank you! ![[20260403_19d542719e00_image001.png]]<http://www.arroyogrande.org/> Kevin Waddy Information Technology Manager Administrative Services, City of Arroyo Grande Tel: 805-473-5409 | www.arroyogrande.org<https://www.arroyogrande.org> 300 E Branch St | Arroyo Grande | CA | 93420 City Hall Business Hours: M-Th 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Fridays 8:00 am - 12:00 pm The information contained in this email pertains to City business and is intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom it is addressed. I'm happy to assist. I have used consultants in the past to do the application for the licensing as they usually know the ins and outs of the process. I can either put you in touch with one or two, or handle it for you. To move to ethernet vs serial data protocol it would be best to move to the unlicensed 900mhz band as ethernet in the 400mhz band will be very slow. The 400mhz ethernet radios are also increasingly hard to find. The additional benefit of moving to 900mhz is you don't need to worry about the licensing. The possible downside to the 900mhz band is the lower wattage requirement and the likely need to use a couple more repeaters to reach all the sites. The good news there is these 900mhz radios are typically setup to be repeaters as well as clients, so no additional hardware is needed. I recommend if we want to move to ethernet that we move to the 900mhz radios. To facilitate this move, we will want to do a site survey to determine where the radio paths will be insufficient and where any additional repeaters will be needed. Looking forward to further conversation. -Kevin Seifert, AutoSys LLC ________________________________ From: Kevin F. It is time to put this FCC licensing thing to bed. I told Shannon I would try to bring this home. I spoke to the County and gather a bunch of info regarding next steps. Would you be able to work with me to get an FCC license or a renewal or something? On another note, what do we have to do to get ethernet as opposed to RF? Using cell modems that will connect to our network? County recommends using APCO, but reaching out to you first. ![[20260403_19d542719e00_image001.png]]<http://www.arroyogrande.org/> Kevin Waddy Information Technology Manager Administrative Services, City of Arroyo Grande Tel: 805-473-5409 | www.arroyogrande.org<https://www.arroyogrande.org> 300 E Branch St | Arroyo Grande | CA | 93420 City Hall Business Hours: M-Th 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Fridays 8:00 am - 12:00 pm The information contained in this email pertains to City business and is intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom it is addressed.
