We send the controller a setpoint via analog output. A 0 flow is to be sent to close the valve. Another change is there will be serial comms between the CC sites with the East Pond likely to be the master / polling site. Comms to Waller from East Pond via Ethernet . **09:30 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776443402934989):** ok.. good stuff **09:37 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776443846075749):** Also add a valve position indicator via analog input **09:37 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776443859835619):** No limit switches **09:38 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776443882649909):** is there a single enable coming from waller? like a master enable? or will the waller PLC be able to disable/enable each pond? **09:38 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776443918519079):** I'm thinking a master enable **09:39 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776443982522289):** modes: fill both, west priority, east priority, west disabled, east disabled, all disabled? **09:39 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776443992900769):** how do we want that to work **09:42 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444132405429):** Yes **09:42 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444136087369):** ok **09:44 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444272718089):** The local disable will come from the HMI at one of the ponds. Btw I want controls for each pond at both ponds if it's not too much. So they can enable disable ponds and wells from either HMI. Now that I'm thinking about it this sounds complicated. **09:45 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444304220879):** yes, its a little complicated already. **09:45 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444310520419):** but we can do anything **09:46 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444374652179):** It's ok. Let's not worry about it. If they want ease of use they can use AutoSys SCADA **09:46 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444408204259):** hm **09:47 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444420838929):** For comm loss, no need to disable control. **09:47 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444422762869):** lots of moving parts. still need to wrap my head around the whole thing **09:48 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444496882539):** Each pond PLC is in control of itself so it's ok it there is comm loss. Let's just put a alarm on SCADA and the master **09:48 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444510969299):** for well control you mean? **09:48 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444520606249):** RW feed obviously shouldnt run on comm loss? **09:48 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444537862669):** and whats the master? the waller PLC? **09:52 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444722017939):** so waller talks to east and east is serial over to west? so we need to bounce messages through east to west? **09:52 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444758436779):** The only thing we would be losing on com loss that is of any consequence is the disables signal from scada and as long as we alarm that there is com loss then they can put one-on-one together that the disable is not going to work. Other than that, the ponds will be in control of themselves to fill the pond via recycled water or the well **09:53 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444795796979):** The master is the East well for for pond to pawn and pawn to communication **09:53 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444804781509):** if there is comm loss how will the RW system know when to start/stop feeding the ponds? **09:53 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444829518759):** The pumps at Waller are based on pressure so if the valves close pressure goes up, pumps shut down **09:54 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444846437459):** man, i just got more confused. **09:54 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444870516539):** let me look at the PID **09:54 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444872541409):** Each Pond is supposed to house its own control logic. The control logic is not meant to be in the Waller PLC **09:55 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444922943059):** Unless you have already done work to make it so or to put that logic in the compact logics at Waller, we can think about doing it that way **09:55 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444926914609):** ok P&ID helped **09:55 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444945163169):** no, control is all at the ponds. **09:56 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776444982929289):** ok. let me try to organize all the facts and make a control strategy i can program from **09:57 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776445074596819):** I copy that. Let me know if you have any further questions **09:58 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776445089635829):** So far it's looking really good **09:59 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776445151353659):** we're in good shape just gotta update for the analog control on the valve and get clear on some things. **09:59 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776445164888929):** do we have a fixed setpoint for flow when the pond calls for water? **10:00 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776445219263479):** Yes, it is a fixed set point which we will want to adjust from the local HMI and to possibly also receive it from scada **10:00 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776445229310819):** ok **10:00 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776445252039309):** But unless I put that in the original narrative, let's just have it a local adjustment and if they want to have control from the plant then we can add that later **10:13 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776446016905879):** should i build an analog AOI with signal fault logic? i think it says somewhere to check for IO fault. **10:19 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776446385991629):** are there open/closed limit switches on the valves? or just position feedback? **12:51 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776455509321259):** Ya you could build an analog AOI. **12:51 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776455519236359):** No switches just position **12:52 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776455544878549):** Cool **17:57 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776473857532309):** have you done any work on comms yet? I may switch to having all plcs on ethernet. I found a decently priced 900mhz ethernet radio from Banner Engineering. $600 **17:58 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776473914163769):** I have not. I'm not sure how I'm gonna do that yet offline. Ethernet would be easier to pre load **18:00 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776474037724409):** alright. I'll probably go with these ethernet radios then. still looking **18:01 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776474117813649):** https://www.bannerengineering.com/us/en/products/part.817618.html **18:05 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776474350809809):** do we need pond to pond comms for control? I can't think of a reason. We can probably make the Waller site the master, maybe either way. **18:05 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776474359897529):** just throwing things at the wall **18:06 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776474371618069):** im in a meeting **18:06 [Mason Radke](https://slack.com/archives/C093BAYNUEQ/p1776474375130619):** ill check in soon
