Got this from my friend Gemini: **10:38 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C08HMJX8J4F/p1761759510585429):** This specific C-more HMI error is a common communication fault, particularly when communicating with *Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation) ControlLogix, CompactLogix, or MicroLogix PLCs* using the *EtherNet/IP* protocol. The error code translates to an issue with how the HMI is requesting a tag or service from the PLC. Error Analysis *ComponentCode / ValueMeaningHMI Error CodePLC-498*Allen-Bradley EtherNet/IP specific: *Service Packet Error*. This means the packet sent by the C-more panel requesting data was not processed correctly by the PLC.*Hexadecimal Error0x040000*This hexadecimal value points to the PLC's internal error response. In the context of Allen-Bradley's CIP (Common Industrial Protocol) errors, this specific code often means: *The requested tag/address could not be located, deciphered, or accessed.* In short: *The C-more panel is asking the PLC for a piece of data (a tag) that the PLC cannot find or recognize.* Top Troubleshooting Steps The quickest way to solve this is usually by checking the tag definitions on the C-more panel: 1. *Check Tag Name Spelling and Case:* The most common cause is a simple typo. The tag name in the C-more Tag Name Database *must be an exact, case-sensitive match* to the tag name in the PLC's project. Even a missing underscore or capital letter will cause a `0x040000` error. 2. *Verify Tag Scope (Controller vs. Program):* ◦ *If you are using an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix or CompactLogix:* Tags can be defined as *Controller Scope* (accessible globally) or *Program Scope* (accessible only within a specific routine). ◦ *The C-more HMI can generally _only_ access tags set to Controller Scope.* If the offending tag is currently set to Program Scope, you must change the tag's scope in the Studio 5000/RSLogix 5000 project to *Controller Scope* and download the change to the PLC. 3. *Check for Unused or Deleted Tags:* ◦ If you recently removed a tag from the PLC program but forgot to delete it from the C-more project, the HMI will continuously try to read a non-existent address, generating this fault. ◦ *Action:* Delete any unused or non-existent tags from the C-more Tag Name Database. How to Pinpoint the Offending Tag You do not have to guess which tag is causing the issue. The C-more panel can tell you: 1. On the running HMI panel, press and hold the *upper-left corner* of the touchscreen for several seconds until the *System Menu* appears. 2. Navigate to the *Error List* or *Panel Information* screen. 3. This list will show the active communication errors, including the *specific tag names* that are generating the PLC-498 fault. Focus your debugging efforts on those tags. **10:39 [Kevin](https://slack.com/archives/C08HMJX8J4F/p1761759547474079):** This is not a new error. It's been there for a long time. Trevor says that was funny because he suppressed that alarm in scada but was still getting the general plant alarm. Found this rung with a coil called T1_HIGH_LVL_FLOAT that is triggered by the high level float DI.
